Darkness is a significant factor responsible for a high-quality sleep. But, more and more often our home and our bedroom are lightened by artificial light sources. As a consequence we are not able to reach relaxation and regeneration – both necessary for body, mind and soul.
Artificial light arises due to:
Light sources in bedroom
Apart from their electromagnetic pollution, electric devices in bedroom also might be responsible for exposure to light, even in stand-by. Indirect lightning, smartphone, tablet and radio-alarm – they all are emitting some light and thus are a source of artificial light.
Light sources in rooms close by or from the outside
A switched-on TV in the adjoining room, the light in the stairway, street lamps or headlights of cars passing by are also causing light pollution.
Light pollution in the urban area
Brightly lit offices, industrial plants, airports, neon signs, floodlights or construction sites have a negative influence on a relaxed night.
How to avoid artificial light sources
- Remove all technical devices from your bedroom
- Before going to bed, make sure that the TV in the living room, the light in the stairway are turned off and close your bedroom door.
- Use shutters to completely darken your bedroom.
- If you are planning to move or to build a house already consider during planning eventually disturbing sources of light (street lamps, change direction of the bedroom away from well-lit buildings etc.)
- Care for a regular sleep-wake-cycle.
