In the night, during a healthy, restful sleep body and mind regenerate. Important detoxification– and elemination-processes as well as cell-regeneration take place. Growth hormones are released and experiences and impressions of the day are processed. Body and mind gather power and energy for the next day. But, what happens when the sleep becomes disturbed and sleeping pills are taken? Are there sleep disturbances due to sleeping pills?
Sleep disturbances due to sleeping pills – the opposite effect
Are you suffering under disturbances to fall asleep and/or to sleep through? Falling asleep and sleeping through relaxed seems far away. It is not uncommon, that people concerned take sleeping pills. Especially, when they suffer under sleeping problems for a longer period of time. Sleeping pills are easy to take. But, be careful: what is supposed to solve sleeping problems, actually can affect our sleeping quality in the long run. Therefore, always look for alternatives and consult your doctor.
Sleeping pills interfere with the sleeping phases
The intake of sleeping pills is supposed to treat sleep disturbances and to improve the process of sleep. But, if you take sleeping pills for a longer period of time it may lead to dependency and addiction. Each one of the single phases of sleep is needed; together, they care for complete recovery. Sleeping pills impair the course of sleep; phases of REM sleep are shortened, phases of deep sleep fail to appear.
Alternatives and natural sleeping aids
There are numerous alternative and natural sleeping aids that facilitate falling asleep and increase sleeping quality. A suitable bedding content made of natural materials cares for optimal recovery of body and mind during the night. Additionally, herbal teas and herbal baths serve as natural sleeping aid. Herbs like valerian, balm, lime blossom and St. John’s wort are very effective.
If falling asleep is hard, try lime blossom: a cup of tea or a warm bath in this herb has a calming and relaxing effect.
Recipe: Relaxing bath in lime blossom
For one bath, take two hands full of lime blossom and put it into a fabric bag. Fill the bathtub with 40° C warm water and put the bag into it. As soon as the water temperature reaches 36° to 37° C the relaxing substances have properly developed. Now take a bath; after 15 to 20 minutes rub yourself with the herbal pack. Then, dry well and lay down in your bed relaxed.
