Once in a while we all experience it: problems to fall asleep. Often, everyday stress in your job or at home, heavy meals, financial worries or simply processing of everyday impressions keep us from falling asleep.
Drinking tea helps you to fall asleep easier
If these problems only occur once in a while drinking tea in the evenings is helpful. There are different types of tea that support falling asleep and sleeping through. They are available at pharmacies and drugstores; often they are mixed on demand.
Types of tea and their effects
- Valerian and melissa: valerian root tea is said to have a calming and relaxing effect. The ingredients of the tea support coming to rest. Especially when suffering under anxiety states and inner unrest, valerian is very helpful. Valerian tea often is mixed with other herbs like hop cone and melissa leaves. The taste of melissa slightly reminds to lemon; they are a nice aromatic contrast to the rather bitter valerian.
- Passion flower: passionflower-tea supports falling asleep, too. The flavonoids included like kaempferol have a positive effect on our health. Passion-flower is helpful with sleep disturbances, unrest and nervousness.
- Lady’s-mantle: in folk medicine, lady’s-mantle is used for the treatment of different complaints, falling asleep disturbances amongst others.
- Juniper berry: consuming juniper berries in form of a tea support falling asleep, too. Here, a table spoon of juniper berries is poured over with boiling water. Let the berries steep for 15 minutes.
Other herbs with a calming and relaxing effect are lavender and St. John’s wort, for example.
