When you ask why people they quit smoking you will hear some main reasons. But, the answers cover a wide range: starting with health, fear of diseases, addiction, costs, yellowed teeth, smokers lines up to social exclusion. All these problems of smokers affect their psyche. And, the fact that the more than 250 disease causing toxins of the cigarettes often lead to migraine, dizziness, heart- and circulatory-problems and even sleep-disturbances is a further motivation to quit smoking. Of course, the role model function of parents for their kids is an important motive as well. Overall, non-smokers are having a better sense of well-being. Since nicotine is unbalancing the whole neurobiology of the brain, non-smokers are suffering less under depressions and anxiety disorders, on an average. With smokers, the transmitters dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine are no longer functioning in a natural way but increasingly depend on the presence of the drug nicotine.
Become a non-smoker – it will make you happy!
Since nicotine is influencing the happy hormone serotonin it was assumed that stopping smoking might lead to anxiety and depressions. But, scientific studies prove that it is otherwise. The Brown University proved in a scientific study that becoming non-smoker even has on opposite effect on our psyche and that non-smokers are happier. This makes the fear of an avoidance irrelevant – when you are loosening the psychological addiction in your subconscious you don’t have to waive anything when becoming a non-smoker.
There are numerous therapeutical helps like hypnosis or mental suggestion. These short therapies positively influence craving for cigarettes, the mood and well-being as well as any withdrawal symptoms like irritability or nervousness. In the 80s I have developed a special method of stopping smoking. It is a combination of color light therapy, ear acupuncture and mental suggestion. In my practice I was able to release thousands of smokers from their addiction.
Why it is always worthwile to quit smoking
Already after 20 minutes non-smoking you are going to feel the first effect: your blood pressure regulates, your circulation improves and your body temperature starts to normalize. Already after eight hours your carbon monoxide content in your blood reduces to a more or less normal level. And, as soon as the first day expires, even your risk of heart attacks drops. From the third day on, the odor- and taste-receptors regenerate and you are better perceiving smells, odors and the variety of tastes. After two weeks of nicotine abstinence, your blood circulation stabilizes, your pulmonary function increases by as much as 30 %. From the second to the ninth month coughing attacks significantly decrease, shortness of breath and fatigue reduce or completely disappear. The function of cilia in the lungs improves and a reduction of mucus is taking place. Like that, the lung purifies and the risk of infection decreases. Already after 12 months your risk for a coronary heart disease becomes half that of a smoker. Ok, it takes five years but then your risk for stroke starts to decrease. From ten years on, the risk for oral, trachea or oesophagus cancer becomes half, especially in comparison with a smoker.
