Sleep epilepsy is a sleep disorder that result in excessive, uncontrollable daytime sleepiness. For people with narcolepsy, sleep problems are often combined with seizures. Therefore it is essential for people to achieve healthy sleep on a nightly basis. The uncontrollable daytime sleepiness is caused by a dysfunction of the brain mechanism which controls sleeping and waking. People who have narcolepsy may have sleep attacks while working, in the middle of talking or even driving.
Signs and symptoms of sleep epilepsy:
- You are debilitated and unable to move when you are waking up or dozing off
- You are having intense dreams and dreaming right away after going to sleep
- You are seeing or also hearing things when you are starting to dream before you are fully asleep
- You are feeling weak or losing control of your muscles when you are experience strong emotions
