The sleeping behavior dramatically changed during the last years. We constantly sleep less and worse and this considerably increases the risk of mortality and a number of diseases.
While twenty years ago, people have spent about eight hours per night sleeping in bed it nowadays are less than seven hours. With doctors, managers or other workaholics the average sleeping duration is even much lower. The WHO draws attention to the fact that sleep is an essential part of surviving. Because, during sleep our organism gets massively regenerated. The body forms new power for the following day and the brain processes experiences and permanently saves newly acquired knowledge.
Quality and quantity of sleep
However, besides the quantity the quality of sleep is very important. A lot of environmental influences like noise, light, or electromagnetic pollution strongly affect our sleeping quality. But, sleeping problems might also occur because of a lack of knowledge of the proper sleep hygienic. Watching TV in the bedroom is not benefiting relaxation. Better are relaxation methods like Autogenous Training, Yoga, or meditation. In the end, the use of the proper sleeping system that meets all sleep-healthy-requirements regarding orthopaedics, material, bedding climate and electromagnetical-pollution-free sleep surroundings is important, too.
