Actually it would be very easy: sufficient sleep, well balanced nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Well, but our everyday challenges, work- and everyday life or diseases may significantly contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle. This is not only affecting our health but also our sleeping behavior.
Especially bad, insufficient or irregular sleep has a huge impact on our health and our well-being. Once our inner clock is unbalanced the consequences might be far-reaching.
Travelling, changes of the clocks or shift work unbalance the natural sleep-wake-rhythm. Israeli scientists found out in studies that not only the sleep rhythm is disturbed by the changing of the clocks but that this also is influencing the intestinal bacteria. These bacteria, too, have an internal clock. Once the internal clock of the intestinal bacteria is unbalanced it might lead to metabolic diseases or overweight.
It is said that our immune system and our health originate from the intestine. Inner, but also outer influences can have a huge impact on our sensitive intestinal tract. Besides an unhealthy nutrition, medications, stress or the consequences of the time shift might significantly disturb this sensitive organ.
Through research with mice, the scientists succeeded in proving that the interaction of our inner clock and our nutrition is influencing the intestinal bacteria and therewith may lead to overweight and glucose intolerance. The same applies for the intestinal flora of us human beings. This, too, is subjected to a rhythm. Now, when the rhythm is disturbed the composition of the bacteria might change.
Scientists of the Institute of Science in Rehovot came to the conclusion that an unbalanced intestinal flora promotes different diseases like for example overweight, asthma or diabetes. So, the intestinal flora not only influences our digestion but also our health.
