Not only stretching of the neck but also strengthening and relaxation of other parts of the body are important. Here, simple measures like movement and sport as well as different household remedies are useful. Read more what is helpful against pain in the neck.
- Balanced diet: A balanced diet contributes to the supply of the body with important nutrients like magnesium, calcium, vitamin D, Omega 3 fatty acid and antioxidants. These nutrients are also important for prevention of tensions and muscle hardening in the neck area. Food like pulses, fish, whole meal products, greens, nuts and banana care for relaxed muscles.
- Drink regularly: Regular drinking cares for an electrolyte balance which also influences the function of nerves and muscles in the neck.
- Smoking and alcohol: Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol – nicotine and alcohol may slow down the natural healing process.
- Massages: Massages of the neck and the upper back relax tight neck musculature. Natural herbal oils (e.g. St. John’s wort) support this effect.
- Warmth: A millet- or cherry-pit-cushion, a compress of curd chees or linseed or a warm hay-flower bath stimulate circulation of the muscle area concerned. This eases pain and tensions.
St. John’s wort oil:
Take 25 grams of St. John’s wort flowers and gently smash them. Put them into a dark and lockable glass bottle. Fill up with olive oil; the flowers should be completely covered. Properly seal the bottle and let it rest in a dark and warm place for about six weeks. Massage three times a day about one tsp into your neck and/or back.
