Different studies came to the same result: permanent stress is interfering with our immune system. Thus, you are not only more prone to diseases caused by viruses, bacteria or germs but also the recovery process might last longer. The wounds of people who are permanently stressed need more time to heal. Furthermore, they react worse than others to vaccination. With chronic diseases like for example neurodermatitis severe stress might lead to an attack.
Body’s own repair mechanism
Furthermore, chronical stress might lead to the development of cancer. At the daily cell production sometimes mistakes that lead to production of mutated daughter cells (= cancer cells) arise. The endogenous repair mechanisms are responsible for fixing this. But, due to the fact that the natural killer cells are less active under permanent stress the number of mutated daughter cells increases since they can’t be combated as quickly as when having a functioning immune system.
Countermeasures to chronical stress
Diminish resp. solve burdening tasks, problems and situations. Frequent exercise and sports, preferably in fresh air, have a balancing effect. Relaxation exercises like for example yoga and autogenous training, a balanced diet as well as restful, healthy and regenerative sleep care for a physical and mental balance.
Furthermore, an optimistic attitude as well as good social contacts contribute to a good physical shape and a positive mood.
