The current situation concerning our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being has reached an alarming degree: although never before there has been so many information concerning health and different campaigns (nutrition, exercise, sleep, smoking, overweight, alcohol etc.) like today and although the level of knowledge in medicine has never been higher there never have been so many sick people with so many different diseases than today! In general understanding, “sickness” is a functional disturbance of an organ, of the psyche or the total organism. Medicinal experts estimate that nowadays there are up to 20,000 different clinical pictures – and the list is continuously growing.
The effective causes of numerous diseases, complaints and symptoms are still unknown, in spite of intensive research. The medical effort – including medication – increased significantly during the last 10 years. In Germany, for example, almost 50% of all adults suffer under essential hypertension, a hypertension without organic diagnostic. Another 50% of all adults suffer under more or less chronical back pain – without any organic causes as well. No. 3 of the most common diagnoses takes chronic ischemic heart disease (ischemic = insufficiently supplied with blood). But it starts way earlier: childhood diseases have reached an alarming extent. Acute infections of the upper airways, fever for reasons unknown as well as viral diseases (measles, mumps, rubella) are in the charting list of diagnosis. Each health disturbance and especially chronical diseases are a burden for everyone concerned as well as for the health- and economic-system. Only in the German-speaking area costs of several hundred billion euros arise.
Only 5 % of all human beings are completely healthy!
If you take a look at the health-statistics you experience a big surprise. With some institutions, the findings mainly seem to depend on the message intended. On the occasion of the World Health Day on April 7th 2016, corresponding statistics concerning public health were propagated. For example, EUROSTAT issued a press release that almost 75 % of the EU-population in the age from 25 to 64 are feeling healthy. This information is especially surprising because at about the same time a poll of the market-Institute, Linz, Austria, revealed a completely different finding, at least for Austria. In summary, the finding of the study is that only 8 % of all Austrians feel free from any physical and mental problems, according to own account. Meaning in reverse: 92 % of all Austrians more or less have health issues.
Top on the list of health disturbances, symptoms and diseases are back- and spine-problems (47 %), overweight and its consequences (41 %), problems with the locomotor apparatus (38 %), chronic pains (9 %). In mental disorders, lack of energy (29 %) and sleep disturbances (27 %) are placed in the forefront. But, there also is a drastic increase in anxiety disorders, panic attacks, burnout etc. For me, it seems especially alarming, that already in 2013 only 14 % of all Austrians stated that they don’t suffer under any health problems – and that within only three years this value has been fallen to 8 %.
The well-known medical journal “The Lancet” confirms that these findings are very real. Their experts found out that actually only every 20th human being is completely healthy, only five out of 100 (unlike 8 like in Austria, for example). In contrast to the Austrian poll, the Lancet-statistic includes babies and children. In total, both sums will result in almost consistent sums.
The bottom line is alarming: Almost 90 % of the population is suffering under temporary health disturbances resp. is chronically ill!
