- The right virgin wool product
While organic products are still on the rise in food markets, organic fabrics in fashion and home furnishings are also becoming increasingly popular. Especially in bed, where you spend a third of your life, you should focus on the bio-active forces of nature.
With the informed choice of the right bedding, there is no way around the organic virgin wool. No other material covers the requirements for healthy sleep on so many levels. Amongst other things, it is breathable, soothing, warmth-retaining, temperature-regulating and moisture-absorbing. Especially the latter is of great importance. Not only do the sweltering summer nights make sleepers sweat. Throughout the year, vital detoxification processes take place at night, during which the body gets rid of harmful substances. Useless metabolites and toxins are also emitted through the skin in the form of sweat. This is where the special advantages of organic sheep’s wool come into play.
Good for rheumatics, bad for mites
While ordinary cotton and horsehair are made of hollow fibres, the fibre of the organic sheep’s wool has marrow and keratin inside. This medulla can absorb moisture, but also repel moisture. A blanket made of organic virgin wool absorbs up to 35% of its own weight in moisture without becoming wet. In comparison to commercial cotton, organic sheep’s wool releases moisture 7 times faster into the air. The bed climate remains dry and warm, which are the ideal conditions for a healthy sleep.
At least that applies to us humans: the house dust mites, however, miss the humid, warm climate in which they feel most comfortable and cause allergies. Therefore, a topper made of organic sheep’s wool is not only very comfortable, but also protects against house dust mites allergies and their possible long-term consequences, such as headaches, rashes or even asthma.
Ideal for rheumatics
Especially for rheumatics, a dry and warm bed is very important. Sleeping with down bedding can form a so-called heat accumulation. The resulting moisture is not transported into the air, but retained close to the body. Thus, the humid bed climate, which is very unfavourable for rheumatics, is created. Existing pain, which makes it difficult to fall asleep anyway, can now increase due to moisture.
Clean without a washing machine
Untreated sheep’s wool brings another unique feature that down, polyester and Co. cannot compete with: it is self-cleaning. This is due to the special nature of the untreated wool hair, which on the one hand contains 1% lanolin, on the other hand has a scale structure on its surface. Even the smallest dirt particles are caught in it. If the wool comes in contact with a lot of oxygen (e.g. when being aired), this scale structure opens. You can get rid of dirt by gently shaking the wool. Also dander is eliminated in this way, which deprives the house dust mites of their living conditions. In addition to time and effort, it also saves the use of sometimes environmentally harmful detergent. Nevertheless, the fabric is hygienically clean.
The right sheep‘s wool product
For the sheep’s wool to develop all these special characteristics, it requires completely natural treatment. For the filling of SAMINA products such as duvet, topper and cover, only natural, high quality virgin wool in merino quality is used. The subsequent gentle and elaborate processing in the SAMINA manufactory transforms the bioactive miracle material into cosy bedding – for a pleasant and healthy sleep experience. Thus, the SAMINA summer duvet for babies meets the highest quality requirements in the processing – especially children have an increased need for warmth, which makes it even more necessary to ensure an ideal bed climate.
