More and more, indoor toxins threaten our health. Especially during sleep our health can be massively impaired. One of the most common indoor toxins is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is one of the most significant basic products of the chemical industry and is to be found in building materials, furniture made of press boards and even cosmetics. Cigarette smoke is polluting the surrounding and therewith the breathing air with formaldehyde, too. This affects regeneration in rooms were we often sojourn and especially in the bedroom. Furthermore, allergic reactions on the skin and especially on the mucous membranes or airways occur. It is advisable to frequently air polluted rooms. But, most of the time the pollution of the air remains for years, because the half-life period of formaldehyde is relatively long.
Sheep wool
For some time science knows about the reaction of formaldehyde with sheep wool. Pure and chemically untreated sheep wool is an excellent and cost-effective “reaction-product” for formaldehyde. Unfortunately, far too seldom used. Laboratory- and practical-tests prove, that untreated sheep wool lowers within a few hours even an extremely high pollution concentration by more than 80 %. And this sustainably. After a restoration of an extremely formaldehyde-polluted kindergarten — originally, the building was meant to be demolished — the pollution decreased about 60 % under the limit value of 0.1ppm. The amino-acids of sheep wool are mainly responsible for this. They absorb the formaldehyde out of the room air and build a stable connection with the formaldehyde. In this process, the formaldehyde gets bound in the sheep wool and is changed into chemically completely harmless substances. These substances remain in the sheep wool and are not released any more.
Besides formaldehyde, the fibers of sheep wool, which consist up to 90 % of special proteins, also break down a series of further indoor toxins like ozone, nitric and Sulphur oxides. Even cigarette smoke and its unpleasant odors get partially neutralized. Like this, for example, a single SAMINA cover made of sheep wool is able to “sanitize” a room of 20 m². This works for many years and without any subsequent costs.
SAMINA hint: Especially when using a new car, put one or two SAMINA travel-pillows into the car. This too significantly improves the air polluted by the synthetic interior trim.
