Currently, a production fault attracts attention and poses an enormous health risk. According to media reports, an increased and therewith harmful and dangerous concentration of dichlorobenzene was determined in the chemical production of a primary product (toluene diisocyanate (TDI)) of synthetic mattresses made of foam. The colorless ingredient may lead to irritations of the airways, skin and eyes and may cause cancer.
A further reason for sleeping expert and sleep psychologist Prof. Dr. med. h.c. Günther W. Amann-Jennson to use natural materials like natural rubber instead of cost-effective variants: “Every single day we are sleeping on top of the mattress. Our head rests on the pillow or even directly on the mattress. This also means, that we are directly inhaling these toxics. The more chemicals are used in the production of a mattress, the more chemicals we are going to have in our system. This can’t be healthy in the long run. Quite the contrary, it is extremely harmful to health. Therefore, it is very important to use natural products.”
Healthy sleep
The current case indicates the importance of healthy sleep and how harmful synthetically produced mattresses really are. Thus, the sleep psychologist advises to invest more money into a high-quality bed resp. sleeping system in the beginning – and to benefit in the long run. Restful sleep is from high value. Because, poor sleep resp. a poor sleeping quality have a negative effect on our health and on our performance. Besides disturbances to fall asleep and to sleep trough, chronic sleep disturbances, mental and physical illnesses might be the consequences. No one likes to sleep in a toxic and hazardous chemical plant – when one could sleep in a wood instead.
