Sleep and its phases (light sleep, deep sleep, REM-sleep) is a clever counterpart of rest and recovery to daytime activity. It is from fundamental importance for our physical as well as our mental well-being. Detoxification, consolidation of learned things, strengthening of the immune system and processing impressions are just some examples of important processes happening during sleep. For this, an undisturbed sequence of the single sleeping phases is precondition. With sufficient sleep, the single sleeping phases are exactly coordinated.
Light sleep
When falling asleep we are in the phase of light sleep. Ability to relax as well as a pleasant, dark, well-tempered, calm and safe sleep surrounding are basic for falling asleep easy.
Deep sleep
Our body recovers especially during phases of deep sleep: damaged cells are repaired and emitted, the release of the growth hormone somatropin is increased. During childhood and adolescence Somatropin mainly is responsible for longitudinal growth whereas in adults it has other important functions like strengthening the connective tissue, ligaments and musculature. Up to 70 % of our physical recovery happen during deep sleep!
REM sleep
This sleeping phase is irreplaceable for our mental recovery which depends to 100 % on REM sleep!
Disturbance factors
Stress, too few exercise, unhealthy nutrition are some sleep influencing factors. To a large extent we are able to change them ourselves. Totally different to other and constantly growing strains like electromagnetic pollution: power lines, WLAN, mobile networks …
On the one hand, electromagnetic pollution negatively affects our body, production of the sleeping hormone melatonin, for example. Numerous studies prove the harmful influence of electromagnetic pollution on the processes in our body. A study of the Wayne State University, USA, conducted in cooperation with the Karolinska Institute and the Uppsala University (both Sweden) for example proves that participants that are exposed to mobile network radiation before going to bed got later in to the phase of deep sleep and spent less time in this phase. Furthermore, we have lost the natural contact to the earth’s surface. Isolated shoes and time mainly spent indoors are reasons for losing the effect of grounding which is so important for our health.
On the other hand, electromagnetic pollution distorts the natural earth’s magnetic field. Natural magnetic fields have a significant influence on our organism and also on our sleep. In a study from the year 1993 the Max-Planck Institute of biochemistry, Munich, Germany, revealed the importance of the sleep direction in the earth’s magnetic field. So, compared to sleeping in East-West direction sleeping in North-South direction improves phases of deep sleep. Natural magnetic fields influence several body functions: hormones, metabolism, nerve impulses and fluid balance.
Body grounding and stabilization of magnetic fields
Especially at our sleeping- and working-places we need new forms of protection from and compensation of the rapidly growing unnatural radiations and the connected distortion and superimposition of the earth’s magnetic field as well as the missing grounding.
Different studies, measurings and works (Applewhite, 2005; Chevalier, 2006; Ober) have proven the positive biologic effects of body grounding. Amongst others, sleep and regeneration become optimized, stress and pain reduced, activity of the parasympathetic nervous system supported – all these things have a significant influence on our sleeping behavior. With the currentless Lokosana® overlay we present our body via night with the positive effects of body grounding. With help of the Lokosana® cushion tasks resp. everyday strain can be handled.
A clinical double-blinded study under the leadership of Dr. Manfred Walzl, sleep medicine at the State Psychiatric Clinic in Graz, Austria, clearly showed that a stabilization of the magnetic fields with special effect carriers significantly reduces time to fall asleep and at the same time prolongs phases of deep sleep and REM sleep. These effect carriers are a fix part of the SAMINA Sleep-Healthy-Concept.
