There are two kinds of people: those who jump out of the bed fit and alert after the first sound of the alarm clock or maybe don’t even need one. The other ones press the snooze button several times – the sky is the limit. Some even set the alarm clock earlier than needed just to completely savor the feeling of being able to turn once more.
A healthy human organism consists of about 70 trillion cells. Each single cell is a biochemical “miracle of nature”. Each second, a variety of metabolic processes take place. The body cells are the key to health and well-being. They determine immune response, performance, metabolic processes and psyche.
Sleep and its phases (light sleep, deep sleep, REM-sleep) is a clever counterpart of rest and recovery to daytime activity. It is from fundamental importance for our physical as well as our mental well-being. Detoxification, consolidation of learned things, strengthening of the immune system and processing impressions are just some examples of important processes happening during sleep.
Sufficient and restful sleep is important for being and feeling fit and vital. But, with increasing age falling asleep and sleeping through experience a change. Therefore, for elder people it is not always easy to have an adequate amount of sleep. As soon as you notice, that lack of sleep is influencing your daily activity it is time to look for help.
